Mrs. Feelings
Mrs. Feelings

I first started my career as a school counselor at Bond Mill Elementary School in Maryland back in 1994!

My students – all 600 of them, gave me the name “Mrs. Feelings” when I encouraged them to come to the counseling office, share feelings and get a “feelings balloon!”

What’s a “feelings balloon?”  Well it’s where we put our feelings if we don’t share them and somehow let them out!  If it gets too full, well, you can imagine what happens then!

We had a motto of “Talk Don’t Pop!” and had a cheer we did every time I entered their classrooms!

Since then, I’ve worked in private practice helping couples create connection, guiding individuals to find value and worth in themselves as well as process trauma and addictions, and encouraging families to create healthy communication and safe and nurturing homes.  Currently, I ‘m the clinical director at a non-profit organization that serves survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

I have learned many therapy modalities over the years including EMDR, EFT, CBT, DBT, IFS, and many more. I find those modalities really helpful, yet I find myself continuing to utilize the basic skills and tools that I developed and used with my students many years ago with almost every client!  I believe these basic and simple tools are a MUST for everyone’s mental health toolbox!  I am passionate about sharing those tools in a way that EVERYONE can use!

I have carried these tools and shared them with my clients for many years, and have dreamt of writing books to share them with everyone!  The first tool, “Talk, Don’t Pop”, is going to be available from Amazon on May 1st with a book of the same title!

Mrs. Feelings will also be doing some in person activities and events to get the word out!  Check out the “events” tab to look for upcoming events!
